Mexico City's Mayor, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that the weekend match between Mexico and Portugal was a good rehearsal for the inauguration of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Mexico. "It was a good exercise for the World Cup opening," she said. Sheinbaum also highlighted that all areas around the Estadio Ciudad de México — as it will be called during the world championship — "looked very good." She further shared that she will meet with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Monday for a meal and to discuss preparations for the World Cup in North America. "We're leaving a bit earlier today at 9:30," she added. During her press conference, the head of government lamented the unfortunate death of a person, who, according to official reports, lost their life prior to the Estadio Banorte's inaugural match. "There were complications inside the stadium, and the death of this person, which we all regret, and who was attended to at the time," she said. "A very good pre-World Cup operation," Sheinbaum said. From the National Palace, Sheinbaum assured that Saturday's match had a very good mobility operation, as all fans managed to get to the Azteca Stadium without traffic jams. "It was a very good mobility operation, because otherwise, a hundred thousand vehicles would have arrived at the Banorte Stadium. We are going to receive Gianni Infantino and I will have breakfast with him, and we will talk about how he saw Saturday's game and everything we are working on towards the World Cup," she concluded.
